French Regulations on VOC emissions
Fairly new to the CE standard is the focus on VOC emissions, emissions of volatile organic compounds that can affect healthy indoor environment of homes. The problem of VOC emissions has only recently emerged, by our concern for energy saving and environmentally friendly building.
VOC is the generic name for a lot of substances that are present in all materials in our environment and that evaporate easily. These substances themselves are not new, they have always been there. However, when building or renovating these days, we try to avoid that air comes in or goes out of our home unchecked. That is why VOCs dwell in our homes for much longer than they used to.
These VOCs can be released from certain varnishes, adhesives or finishing products. Therefore it is very important to ventilate the room properly when installing or finishing wallcovering.
DESARDI® Classic wallcovering is assigned the A+ label.
Euro Classification - Fire behavior
Construction works must comply with the basic requirements specified in Annex I to the Construction Products Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products.
Basic requirement 2 specifies safety in case of fire. For all construction products placed on the European market, the fire performance must be classified according to the requirements of EN 13501-1: 2019 – Fire classification of construction products and building elements – Part 1: Classification with reaction to fire test data.
The fire reaction is the behaviour of a construction product that – through its own decomposition – fuels the fire to which it is exposed under specific conditions. The European Fire Reaction Classification distinguishes seven main classes (A1fl, A2fl, Bfl, Cfl, Dfl, Efl and Ffl), with the following addition: class s1 or s2 for smoke development.
Euro classification / EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009
DESARDI® wallcovering is assigned to the classification in accordance with the procedures given in the standard EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009: Fire classification of construction products and building elements – Part 1: Classificating using data from reaction to fire test.
